Very busy location, so make sure you have all your requirements with you. It is best to have an appointment. I went there to renew my driver’s license. Upon receiving my renewal notice, I went online to make an appointment but unfortunately none is available (dates before my license expires) at the location I want. I would suggest to make an appointment at least 3 months before your license expires, prior receiving the notice.
Now I went ahead just walked in on one of my days off. Mind you, they have it on their website how long is their current wait time as well the locations nearby. So it will be your choice to wait and stay, everyone is doing their job, no one is just sitting down or doing nothing. Since I was nice and know what I’m getting into (4 hrs wait time), the employee asked me if I want to come back the next day and she’ll give me an appointment. Of course I accepted! I went back the next day, only took 1 hour for the whole process.
Im just pissed slightly at this dmv. It is sort of my fault, but at the same time poor customer service. And i recall this one was faster then walnut creek. But if u dont do it correctly, they treat you like some sort idiot.
I dont have a license or a debit card as i lost both. I came to fargo to try a get a new debit this morning, but it didnt work. They needed a photo id. I didnt have any other id and couldnt find any @ the house. And i rarely carry cash.
So then I go to dmv and go through the process only to find they dont accept credit cards or tap and pay. After hours of waiting, and trying to get my cards to work, they closed and said, im sorry, we cant take anymore payments. They handed me an appointment card but I couldnt make it today.
Today, though I feel they were pretty rude, and I have worked in worst customers services jobs before. I tried to explain to them I tried explain to them the whole situation that it. They gave me responses like, “well now you can get it today” instead, of ” Im sorry to hear that, maybe we can try doing something about this. Or “sorry hun thats the way the world works.” Or “maybe you should of done your research before hand we wouldnt have this problem” I mean these were truthful, but they could of phrased it better like ” Im sorry, I wish there was a way to help you, but I cant.” Give a laugh or something.
Dmv and government, please get it together and upgrade your tech faster. You guys are soo stuck in the 60s, its just frustrating as hell.
For future record until it upgrades, dmv only accepts check, cash, or debit. No credit or tap and pay. Come in. Early mornings or after 4 pm.
Anyone that lives in the Bay Area knows DMV is going to be a few hours wait without an appointment, (get an appointment if you can, I tried in the middle of July and they were booked til mid September, so drop in was my only option). I arrived at 7am, (1 hour before DMV opens), and the line was already over 50 people deep. I was at DMV for about 3 hours from start to finish, (left at 10 am), but since I rarely have to go to DMV, it’s not that bad knowing everything is being handled and finished.
Now, the wait is the worst part of this experience. I would bring a book or something to keep you entertained for the down time you will spend waiting. Trying to be patient while other numbers in different alphabet groups are being called and not yours, it can be testing to say the least and is the worst part. But, with all of the official government documents these people have to deal with, I understand why it will take time to get your documents changed or submitted. When I was finally called up to the window, the lady behind the counter was very nice and knew exactly what she was doing. It was handled swiftly (this is a loose term, but with everything I had done, it was very quick for me). I knew it would be a long DMV experience, but they employees were pleasant.
On a side note, when I was in line to get my photo taken, a couple was arguing with a lady behind the counter about cheating on a test, ( the husband was telling the wife answers and looking at her test when that’s not allowed, obviously). When this happens, don’t be rude to the DMV people, because they can fail you based on fraud and then force you to leave the building. If you are going to wait all this time to do whatever you need done here, be polite and respectful. They have WAY MORE POWER THAN YOU. Be smart, be quiet, and do what they say, like TSA at the airport. Because if you don’t, you won’t get to drive and you’ll have a possible criminal charge when the cops show up,(I watched the husband get in bad trouble and his wife couldn’t retake her test and she got a fail due to fraud on her test, not good). So, be smart, don’t cheat, and don’t yell at the people that work there.
Cliff Notes: long waits, nice employees, don’t be a moron and go off on DMV people. If you prepare for these notes, DMV isn’t as annoying, but it’s still going to be annoying…it’s DMV.
Ridiculous! I lost my drivers license during a hike and while I walked back, someone picked it up but never returned it. The earliest appointment both at Walnut Creek and pleasant hill was mid July… so I couldn’t wait that long. Came here at 9.20, made it into the dmv to get a ticket at 11.05… the guy next to me got his number at 9.30 and got called at 11.20… so guess including lunch break, this will be another 3 hours or so (writing as I’m waiting). This is certainly ridiculous. There needs to be more personnel for all those people or more machines. A lost DL should not require anything but a filled out form and then give your finger print to ensure it’s you, pay the fine. Could all be done at a kiosk. I bet a good amount of the other stuff as well. Ridiculous that one has to take the day off to deal with dmv issues.
The ladies who helped me out were very friendly! Clean office, and the employees kept the line constantly moving at a good pace.
I waited three and a half hours (came at 12:30 and wasn’t out of there until nearly 4pm). Typical DMV wait time so no surprise there.
One thing that bothered me was the first lady that I spoke to asked if I wanted to take a new ID picture, and I said yes – come to find that I finally get called up and I don’t get to take a new photo. I know it’s not completely necessary I guess, but definitely a bummer that I was offered it, to not actually get it. I was so tired of waiting there that I didn’t even have the energy to demand a new photo lol. Like I said, typical DMV visit, except the employees here are friendlier than the other DMVs that I’ve been to.
Wow. Today was the most efficient DMV in the history of the DMV. We arrived at 7:35. We were 70 people deep in line already. The DMV now has a person helping in the line to direct you where to go once the doors open. A gentlemen helped us and directed us right to the back for my son to take his permit test. It’s now 8:10 and he is already in the middle of his test. Tisha helped us at the counter and was upbeat, pleasant, and a joy to speak to as she processed the paperwork for the test.
It is a Friday morning and I am looking around at the office. The lines are reasonable and there are people not behind the counters to help you. Concord DMV is doing something RIGHT!
I was ready for a disaster…today was excellent.
I needed to pick up custom plates and decided to get a Real ID while I was at it. I booked an appointment which took a month to get but no biggie. I went online and read the instructions and brought the required documentation. I showed up 20 minutes early to my appointment, checked in (10 minutes total) and within 1/2 hour I was on my way out the door. Super job DMV.
This place is a joke. 3+ hours and I still haven’t gotten to the window. There are 14+ DMV employees available at the moment. 92 people have been served in over 90 minutes since I got here. That means that each one of these employees have helped an average of 6.5 people over the course of 3 hours. Let’s just say they help 6 people over the course of 3 hours for simple math. So that means each one of these slow paced employees helps 2 people an hour right? In what world is this OK? There is no urgency, no accountability, and no one cares. Your Tax dollars at “work”.
Workers were friendly and professional. The wait time was something else…got there at 9:30 got a number at 10 and waited 6 hours get my numbers called. I’ll admit I didn’t make an appointment but six hours of waiting is not acceptable!!!. How’s DMV not get in any trouble for this!?. By noon there was only 4 people working and same number people waiting for their number to get called. Do they not have contingency plans for lunch time?. They need to hire more workers. Did they not jack up the registration fees? Where is all the money going??
All in all after paying all the fees and accounting for the time lost at work, I out about $1000. I can not even imagine how much money is lost at the DMV each year by all Californians.
In and out in under an hour with no appointment! This office is the best! Every single person was kind and smiling and helpful. I got there at 7:40 (they opened at 8) and there were 2 employees walking the lines helping people, getting them the correct forms, and answering questions so when the doors opened we were ready to go. I would highly recommend this particular location
I must have came on a good day!! I walked in DMV at 1005am with no appointment and walked out by 1030am. There was a small line at the first window but one of the employees talks to the people in line and asks what they are there for to give them forms that they need and to speed up the process. After I got my ticket I got called 10 mins later to take care of my registration. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. They all asked me how I was doing and try to make sure I was doing everything right to make my experience quick as possible. This DMV is very organized, logical and clean.
Typical I’m about to be 46 years old now so 30 years of driving and dealing with THIS PLACE. Always something going down, system issues but if you look at all the workers here they all move like sloths with zero customer service and urgency. Regardless of the location too it’s strange. Anyway took 4 goddam hours to give them money. WTF.
This made me renew and from now on AAA will be my DMV express

This location is simply a disgrace to the people of this area.
Extremely rude customer service, disgustingly long wait times, and the most poor work ethic I’ve seen out of any human beings ever!
And to top it off they are willing to now break the law and turn you away even if you were in the door before 5pm.
To the work force that occupies this location, maybe if you actually worked through the day you wouldn’t have to disgracefully break the law and turn people away when they rightfully made in the doors within the posted business hours!
You should all be evaluated and or replaced with people who are eager to work and not just rudely lazily collecting a paycheck.

My husband and I finally decided to get our names changed after 3 years of getting married. I booked some plane tickets in our “new” name so that we would do the paperwork and stop stalling. We changed our name with the Social Security Administration (for name on your DL needs to match the name on your SSN) and when we got our new cards we found out that the wait for an appointment at Concord or Walnut Creek DMV was about 1.5-2 months (YAY…..not). We decided to just walk in. We went to update our DL’s to new Real ID/DL’s and also to change the name on our car title. We checked online all the documents we needed to bring and forms we needed to fill out.
The DMV website has a pretty accurate notation of your estimated wait time. We left the house at 3:45PM on a Thursday planning to go to the Walnut Creek DMV but the estimated queue time was 4.5 hours versus Concords 2 hours and 15 minutes so we decided to go to Concord instead since we were equidistant. We got there around 4:05. Checked in with the nice person in front of the building who told us to fill out their form and where to go (which is a little nicer than the Oakland DMV that just has an automated kiosk and doesn’t give you the right forms you need- if any). Waited in the non-appointment line for about 5 minutes to get a number (they also check that you have the right documents). After that, they had us go into a room to fill out information on a computer (basically you fill in the changes yourself instead of like old times where they did it for you and you might find mistakes over and over) and then go back to the waiting/main room.
The room you wait in is clean and air conditioned. They have monitors that show the number being called and which window to go through. Honestly, the numbering system is a lot like at the SSA, I’m pretty sure the different GG, BB, JJ, and whatnots are linked to what you need processed. My husband got a GG number (he was just updating his license) and I got a BB number (I was updating my license and changing the name on our title-the lady at the desk changed our title and then asked her coworker to process my Real ID info). If you notice, each one of them is still called in roughly numerical order (not exactly but pretty close or numerical most of the time). My husbands number was about 15 away and mine was about 25 when we got to the waiting room. My husband waited about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I think I waited a little less than 2 hours. So really, I think your wait will depend on what you are there for. The workers there were all really nice and patient. After the paperwork is processed, they send us to get photos. We mentioned the wait times we saw online and how crazy the one in Walnut Creek was and the workers there mentioned that they heard that the staff there often doesn’t leave until after 9PM whereas the office was almost empty in Concord by the time we left. We got there around 4:05 and left around 5:45 after all was said and done. Pretty reasonable experience given that we didn’t have an appointment.
They’re lines are fast when you decide to get here in the morning. They are so organized, yesterday I was at vallejo and they were super busy. Like on the screen, they stop calling numbers until the next hour. I was there for 5 hours, but I’m glad concord dmv helped alot. They had about 2-3 working the outside lines and about 18 windows that people were working with.
We had our wedding here \u0026 it was perfect. \nAffordable venue that allows you to make it your own \u0026 hire your own vendors. Beautiful for wedding photos if you’re looking for a romantic garden wedding. I was nervous about the location on Ygnacio but it didn’t bother me at all the day of.
This review is for the house tour. This is a beautiful and well-preserved old house and former ranch/orchard, with an interesting family history. Our docent was professional and well-prepared and was good about answering questions. Walnut Creek has a great \”frontier\” history and isn’t called \”Walnut\” Creek for nothing — it owes its name to the walnuts that were grown there in abundance back in the day. Places like this are vital for preserving the history and culture of a city, and should be better funded and promoted by city government. Fascinating stop for locals and out-of-towners alike.
This house museum is amazing. The majority of the furniture, artifacts and even the rugs are original to the house. When the house was first turned over to the historical society and they emptied the barn, a treasure trove of artifacts were found and they brought them into the house.\n\nIf I had to choose favorite treasure in the house it would be Stella music box/record player. The docent turned the hand crank and the metal record started to play Ava Maria, the tone was amazing. If I had to choose a favorite room it would be the dining room. The table was set with beautiful china and the cabinets and sideboards had wonderful Victorian era glassware and silver.\n\nWhat made this tour special were the docents. One of the women took me on the tour of the main floor and the other took me on a tour of the upstairs. They were both knowledgeable about the house, the people who lived there, and the history of the area. I came away feeling that I knew these people and also had a new appreciation for the people who settled, in what at the time, was a very rural part of California.
We had our wedding here on April 29. It was as perfect as we could have ever imagined. The grounds were beautiful and the flowers were in full bloom. The venue fit our vision to a tee. Jackie was fantastic to work with and helped us every step of the way. She even helped us set up a \”doomsday\” plan in case of rain. \n\nOur guests loved the venue, with the touch of history and beauty of the gardens. All of our wedding photos turned out beautifully – with so many different options for backdrops.
My husband and I got married here in June. Jackie helped us with the site. It was pretty easy and organized to work with Jackie. She was responsive to emails and professional. We enjoyed this beautiful garden and so did our guesses. We hosted 240 people here with no issues. We had a live band FYI: Beer and wine only for you events. You have to turn down the music around 10pm and really quiet down by 11pm.
My husband and I visited this beautiful historic home a few weeks ago. A docent treated us to a tour of the home, providing us not only with an overview of the family histories of the pioneers who built and resided in the house, but also how those histories are interwoven into the broader histories of our state and our nation.\n\nThe docent also mentioned special events they hold in the home during the holidays, such as teas and a handcraft faire. \n\nWhat a gem.
This is a nice historic house and ranch right off Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek. As other Yelpers have pointed out, no personal photography allowed inside, which is a bummer. I didn’t choose to do a house tour (which is on Wednesdays and Sundays from 1-4 PM), but I was able to explore around the porch and the gardens, as well as the gazebo. Pretty nice place, overall, though the parking lot is rather small.\n\nAlso, the Shadelands Ranch Museum is a popular venue for weddings and special events.
The docent lead tour of Shadelands Ranch Museum gives visitors a glimpse of life in Walnut Creek 115 years ago, insight into the Penniman family for whom this Colonial Revival home was built, and information about the furnishings and artifacts most of which are original to the house. At $3.00 for adults, this is the biggest bargain in town!
