Maybe it’s because I came in expecting the worse that I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to the DMV. So I had to renew my license in person this year and opted for the \”REAL ID.\” Hearing the horror stories of the 5 hour wait times, I thought it would be best to make an appointment. Thankfully, the day I got the letter in the mail to renew was the day I went online to make my DMV appointment. Their appointments were booked 1 month out!! So crazy! I booked the first available appointment on a Wednesday at 8:40am. I arrived promptly at 8:40am went straight into the entrance and essentially cut the line that wrapped around the building. The person helping me with the drivers license was curt, disinterested, and not very friendly. Thankfully I was in and out in 40 minutes. \n\nJust a tip: ALWAYS try to book an appointment first thing in the A.M. if you can to guarantee you are one of the first ones to be seen. That way you can avoid the ridiculous lines.
Typical DMV. Employees are straight and to the point, super crowded, confusing paperwork (LOL), not enough seating… but at least it’s air conditioned!\n\nI went in a few months ago because I lost my entire wallet and needed to get a new Driver’s License. I entered and waited in the the non-appointment line for about 10-15 minutes, was given paperwork to fill out, entered into the appointment line to turn in my paperwork, and was instructed to wait until my number was called to head to my appropriate station. I waited a total of 3.5 hours from that point up until I was finally called up.\n\nThe most annoying thing about this experience was that the first lady I spoke to asked me if I would like to take a new license photo, to which I happily replied YES! However when I got up to the station, the lady filed my paperwork and took a couple of signatures from me and said I was all set. When I asked if I get to take my new picture, she just replied, \”Nope.\” By that time I had already been there for about 4 hours and I didn’t have it in me to try to demand a new photo since I was offered it.\n\nAll in all, typical DMV experience. Mundane, long wait time, left slightly unhappy but glad I was out of there.
My wife had road test Today and she got unlucky with this road test inspector named Brian who is weird long bearded white dude looks like just came down from a mountain and we don’t care how he looks though it’s just he started yelling at me and everyone around, I found myself kicked out of the area and wondering in other side of the building. I wonder how dmv hires people like him for road test, while my wife was driving he was keep yelling as drive faster or don’t let anyone get in front of you, or too slow turning and at the end her test sheets shows 15 misktake which 7 of them related with low speed problem, who expects new drivers to drive so fast, and I hope she wouldn’t face same guy the next time. Worst road test inspector ever.
Terrible place! The most unhappiest people work here. \nI waited outside for 1.2 hours before getting inside and that was ok since I did not make an appointment . \nWhen I reached the counter they are so nasty here – got my number to have s seat. Then one hour later they skipped my number. I waited in Line be again to find out what happened and they said they accidentally skipped my number. \nThey re- entered it in system and skipped me again. \nWhen I approached the counter the are unbelievably nasty , no integrity for the work they do, no gratefulness for the jobs they have, nor respect for plp.
I wish I could give no stars. The Asian lady out front with the dark rim glasses was the rudest person I’ve ever met. And I wasn’t the only person that felt that way. I appreciate the fact that she was trying to get the lane moving, but the way she talked to people was incredibly disrespectful. The dmv in California is already a poorly run and inefficient system, and it would be nice to have a little bit of friendly service.
My son didn’t pass his written test on the first try so we needed to come back. No online appointments available for a month so we decided to come down and try our luck standing in line. It was 1pm on a Wednesday, how bad could it be?? Very bad apparently! We stood in line outside in the sun for 3 1/2 hours before getting inside only to wait an additional hour (and counting)! \nThere is no one working here! Tons of empty chairs where there should be employees. Moral of the story, don’t ever…EVER EVER come to the dmv without an appointment!!!
Okay, just got back from getting a vehicle registered at this DMV office. I have to say that I thought I was in a third world country! I feel sorry for the employees who work there dealing with a ludicrously antiquated system. The teller that I worked with HAD NOT HAD A LUNCH BREAK and had to be there UNTIL ALL PEOPLE HAD BEEN SERVED! It’s not their fault people!\n\nI DO have a problem with the manager however. After having been there for 7 hours, we were meeting very nice people who were also waiting. When it came to one of us having our number called, we were excited for them and clapped. IT WASN’T a criticism of the employees and this manager announced there will be no clapping when a number is called. Really? He should be lucky we weren’t all irate!!! THERE WERE NO OUTBURSTS and people were incredibly patient!!!!
Worst experience ever, 2 hour wait in line to get the to the one and a half hour wait. The employees treat you like they could care less about their guarteed government job. \n\nIt’s sad to see this lack of efficiency and total disregard for the customer continue. But what else are you going to do?
It’s only gonna get worst folks, since Trump is not going to give these Fed. workers any raise. There are maybe a couple of nice workers here. I was unlucky to get the rudest person/lady here at the window and had to deal w/her outside to get your paper so that you can then get in line to get your number, etc.. etc. Very snappy \u0026 rude \u0026 loud, even if you had a simple question. While at the window she just continued to bitch about everything nonstop…I’d hate to deal with her as a customer LOL! – hope she takes her BP medicine. DMV needs a major haul, it’s such an old system. If you go over just one day past your bill due date, you cannot pay the fees online, you have no choice but to go to the office…\nwhy can’t the system just add the late fees online w/your regular bill??? Anyway, I think it’s better to check in around 4:30 pm…less people, I only waited 45 mins for my number to be called.
This is for my second visit on 6/12/2018\n\nSo like most people the DMV is one of my least favorite places. Its always crazy busy, hot inside, chaotic etc. This time was different though.\n\nI had an appointment at 11am for a driving test. I stood in line outside for maybe 5 minutes and then got ushered inside to a window right away. The wait for the test took about 20 minutes. From my experiences here that is quite an upgrade! Perhaps they are finding more efficient ways to check everybody in etc.\n\nAs for the test: the guy was really awesome. He put me right at ease and even made small talk with me. Not sure what his name is but he has blonde hair and a blond beard and looks pretty young. I highly recommend him for the test. Not only did I pass but he told me what I needed to work on and gave me concrete feedback. \n\nTo anyone else who needs to take the test: Its really not as hard as you think it will be. The first time I was so nervous I failed but the second time I basically just thought of the examiner as my instructor. What he asked me to do was exactly what I had been doing all along.
Hey, who likes going to any CA DMV?? Lines, money, more lines, more money. The system is OLD and needs updating to deal with such a highly populated state. It certainly isn’t the employees fault for the crappy system they have to make do with as well as all the crabby people in line. I knew I had a long day ahead of me, registering a vehicle I purchased while out of state for 13 months and renewing my drivers license. The lady our front was welcoming and helpful. I did have to wait 45 minutes to have my vehicle \”verified\” and I was first in line for that. The two men working that area were doing \”driver\” testing as well as verification. He was the only rude arrogant person I came across, but if I had to get into a car with certain individuals moving to the US, barely speak the language here, can’t identify road signs, let alone know how to start their car ( this is what I watched while waiting so it was entertainment). I’d be crabby too! All in all, I was there NO appointment on a Friday for about 3 hours total. My advice is fill out all the forms online before you go, read and re-read the paperwork needed, read yelp reviews that offer helpful advice in navigating the system. Good Luck!
LaTee’s Act of Kindness – in \u0026 out in 6 minutes!\n\nI made an appointment, showed up on time (9/20/17), and approached the counter, only to find that my appointment is in 6 weeks! The \”non-appointment line\” was 50 (haggard) people-long. \n\nOn informing me that I was here on the wrong date, LaTee saw my look of panic and agreed to quickly help me out. She kindly processed my paperwork and I was out the door in 6 minutes. \n\nWhen do we ever think of a DMV experience and smile? Well, LaTee did it! Great customer service. Give that lady a promotion!
5 stars for a DMV? Well I’m comparing it to many other DMV offices in the Bay area that I’ve been to. I had an appointment to get a new license (needed to take written test and new photo), I was in and out in 1 hour. I was shocked. I’ve had appointments at other DMV locations and still waited over 2 hours just for my number to be called! Anyway, everyone at the office that I dealt with was super nice and they were extremely efficient at moving people through lines. I think this is the office I’ll go to from now on. Maybe I just got lucky, who knows, but I was very happy with my experience. On a side note, I was there on a wednesday for a 10:20 appt. Maybe I got lucky because of the time/day.
I am leaving this review because the wait time online said 1 hour after you get your ticket. I have been here for 4 and no sign of my number being called. Couldn’t make an appointment because of unexpected circumstances, otherwise that is the only way to go. My advice is to bring your laptop and reading material.
