Rocklin Public Library – 4890 Granite Dr, Rocklin CA 95677
Updated review 06/26/2016: Another update…just want to say how totally pleased with the OUTSTANDING service I always get from Lorina Estes and Sophie (who is actually a manager I believe).
Updated Review 3/14/2016: I had a couple problems with items returned via the book drop. Luckily, I had followed up online to check my account and noticed it. The first time, I called to ask them to please check their shelves. They called me back later and apologized, said they found it, and took it off my account. I think it was about 2 weeks later, I had a similar problem, where a returned item still showed on my account. Again, I called in. This time was a mixed problem. I had in fact returned the DVD CASE, but didn’t realize my daughter had not put the DVD back inside. I found it at home in a CD player (SMH…she’s 5) and made a special trip to the library to return the DVD. I then asked if I could please, please, please just return items at the desk so I wouldn’t have to keep checking back 24-48 hours afterwards each time I return items. (We come here 1-2 times a week now.) They agreed that- given that I had 2 issues within about a month’s time- it was a reasonable request. My interactions with the librarians have been wonderful since. “Sophie” (who is apparently on the new side) is an absolute joy. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the librarian that caused the initial bad review.
Muuuch better! This library sounded like a concert lobby the last time I was here. Not only was it super quite this time, but there was a very helpful desk person when I had a question about a downloadable book.
I’ll certainly be back. They have an awesome study/reading space upstairs and good selections on books, audio and movies. I didn’t stay long enough during my last wacky visit to really take in their extensive selection. Good stuff.
Always easy to pick up books reserved here. I have never had any issues doing anything online and having it transferred to this location. Always clean and organized. Children’s section is great.
In terms of studying/working:
There’s only one study room which may or may not be checked out by the tutors (by default, they get priority). There aren’t many desks throughout the library. There are also small desks packed together, and each have their own outlet. Their wifi does work great, though.
This is a beautiful, new library that locates close to Sierra College, the gym, and some restaurants that make it a great central spot to go to study! I like that they open on Saturdays from 10:30 – 5PM so I can get some good work done without resorting to coffee shops.
I love sitting next to the windows, which give plenty natural light and overlook the nice fountain outside. If you don’t like kids, go upstairs to the “adult” space and get some quiet work done. Their staff is very nice and helpful too. Restrooms and facility is very clean most of the time. Overall, a great place to be.
P.S. Printing is 15 cents a copy – bring your coins!
Checked out the library this past Saturday for the first time. Nice location. It was VERY quiet in there. I know libraries are supposed to be quiet, but the afternoon I went, it was deafeningly silent! (is that an oxymoron?) Not sure if kids were absent or if they have a strict no-talking policy there. Definitely good for if you’re studying or need absolute silence for concentration!
It’s a 2-story building with most of the children’s sections downstairs and adults upstairs. Lots of computers around, lots of DVDs, CDs, books and magazines available for checkout. They have a few summer reading programs available for kids and adults too. There’s even a little bookstore right by the entrance for people who like to purchase their books instead of borrowing. There was a “community” room where people can hang out and watch a movie together. On Saturday, they were watching “Wizard of Oz.”
Very clean and air-conditioned. Definitely a good place to hang out if you need to get some studying done or don’t have A/C at home.
For being a pretty busy library it’s pretty quiet and a lot larger than I was expecting. They also have a lot of tables with plugs and outlets so despite how busy it is, there is usually quality seating to be found; most of the time I think the decorations they do for recommended reads are really cute too.
Because of this wonderful library I never use Redbox. Their movie selection is awesome, their audiobooks and Music CDs rock and although I’m almost illiterate they do have what you call them books and lots of em.
I have spent many an hour just relaxing at this library. They have the cleanest bathrooms and the nicest staff. They have great kids programs for free. They offer free wifi(like me a little slow) but it works.
Even the few homeless people that visit this library aren’t bad. Every morning when the library is about to open, there are always eager patrons pressing their noses against the glass in anticipation. When the doors open at 10AM, the staff are lined up to welcome everyone with open arms.
What a joy it is to come here. A great place filled with a ton of educational things for adults and children. This library is in the 21st century as well so checking out books is a breeze. I’m glad I came here!
Love love love this location!!! the staff is very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. The library is bright and airy. The ambiance is positive. the kids zone is awesome, nice selection of toys too!
I love it here….
Wow the library checkout system is totally electronically with it!! You can set your entire stack of books, CDs & movies on the checkout pad and it scans and reads all the titles, then with their touch screen monitors push print and you get a print out of items and due dates!! Love it.
Rocklin library is in a great location, fairly large selection for their size except for CDs and movies, but no problem because you can order them from any placer county library.
It’s a nice space to spend time. They have highly functioning computers that are actually available. My only request is more magazines please!!
Has free wifi and workstations with electric sources on the 2nd floor! There are many comfy chairs that invite you to curl up and read. With all the huge windows, natural lighting is great and makes studying pleasant. Wish the hours were longer!
I live in Lincoln and this is my go to library. They have consistent daily hours and are open every day but Sunday and Monday. They have all the children’s materials downstairs and adult and teens materials upstairs. It creates a nice space for each age. Majority of the library staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve only had a problem with one librarian and she is consistently the same to everyone. Knowing that I just go to another librarian. This library is worth the drive for me and way easier to deal with than the lincoln library.
We love this library!! They have the best Wee Read Baby Lapsit! Parents and babies sing songs, play with toys and read stories. They have a fun train table and children reading area. The library is beautiful and well maintained
Pros: Clean facility, beautiful entrance, helpful staff, decent selection of books, kids’ reading program during summer
Cons: Needs to be open longer, needs more books and an easier program for finding books
Uhm, apparently the library has gotten way cooler than since I was a kid.
Touch screen self check outs? Yes please.
I wish they had more cd’s to check out because checking out new music is my favorite thing to do at the library. Selection is decent but small.
Building design is cool and allows for lots of sunlight to come in which is always nice. They do have free wifi and quite a few work station areas so it could be a good place to work or study.
All in all pretty awesome for a library.
This was my first time going to this library. I went there for the storytime with my little cutie pie. It was cancelled, however, they improvised and still kept the get together in a little kiddie corner they had. Everyone was really nice. I didnt know my baby left a trail of her brand new shoes that fell off her feet but someone was friendly enough to find out whoes they were and returned it. Such a friendly and trusting environment
It was a big group of mommies and babies waiting for storytime and playtime. Seems like its a hit at this library and would be really fun if the event actually happened. I wonder when there will be another one. I will definately check it out.
I only went for a Mommy and Me reading time class so I have not experienced all that this library has to offer. First, I was surprised by the big, new location. I had no clue they had moved.
This place is large and very clean. The room for the reading time was also spacious. The man that came to read and sing with the babies seemed happy to be there and was friendly. We will be back.
Being new an area can make it slightly difficult to find that place where you feel comfortable nerding out to a productive day.. Finally I stumbled across a library that allows me to connect to their wifi simply and quickly, has a quiet room for secluded studies, and plenty of private seating with an awesone view of the outside lake and fountain in the middle! I believe the library has to be new to an extent because it is extremely well upkept!
This is a small library but it’s growing. The staff are excellent and helpful and the seating and computers are top notch. The whole first floor is dedicated to the younguns. This would be a perfect place to study if they had a bistro, but I guess I should just be happy that they’re still in business.
