Compromised padlock body. A padlock that has been struck, pried, or drilled shows visible signs of attack: deformed body casting, damaged shackle ears, or a cylinder that spins freely because the driver pins have been destroyed. A padlock in this condition should be replaced immediately regardless of whether it still appears to open and close, because its resistance to further attack is severely diminished. Hasp and anchor-point failure. The padlock itself is only as secure as the hardware it passes through.
